What is required for me to book a session?
Your session date with be considered officially booked once I have the retainer and completed information sheet/contract that I provide to you.

How much of a retainer do I need to put down? And when is the final balance due?
I ask for a 50% retainer to confirm your booking. The remaining 50% balance is due by your session date.

Do you charge a travel fee?
No, if the session location is in the Outer Banks area, I do not charge a travel fee.
If I will be traveling outside of the Outer Banks please inquire about the travel fee.

Are there any additional hidden fees other than the price listed in you pricing section?

Will I be provided with rights to make my own prints?
Yes. With your pictures you will receive a letter of rights giving you the rights for personal use. This means you are able to have your own prints and products made at labs of your choice, share the pictures on social media, and use them on a personal blog or website.

What is the best time of day for pictures?
My favorite time of day is the last hour before sunset. The lighting is softer and even, the sky is beautiful, the shoreline is glowing, there are less people on the beach at that time, and the temperature is a little cooler during summer months.

Can we bring our own props or children’s toys for the photos?

Do you have a recommendation on what we should wear?
Wear what you're comfortable in. White shirts vs. colored shirts, and which colors...this is completely up to you. The only thing I advise against is busy patterns since they tend to be visually distracting, especially in group photos. Solids tend to look better in a photograph and are more timeless. I personally am not a fan of black or navy blue. I think it's too much of a contrast with the light sand, and in order to get your faces exposed correctly, the dark colors can end up looking faded. Personally I like a little color in the pictures. The pastel blues, greens, yellows, pinks are my personal favorite as they always look pretty on the beach. The bold colors are pretty too and give a pop of color. A lot of people like the look of khaki and white because it's so neutral. I think sometimes the white/khaki can make the pictures look washed out against the tan sand. But it is very neutral and timeless so that's nice. If you're still unsure, take a look through my portrait gallery so you can see what others have worn and you will probably get a sense of what you like and want. That usually helps.

What is your photography style for family portraits?
My sessions tend to be laid back and fun. I typically like to get a combination of posed portraits and candids. I usually spend about half our time getting posed group shots, standing and sitting. Then spend the second half of our time letting everyone play at the waters edge for candid shots.

Can we get different groupings during our family session?
Yes absolutely, during our time together we can get whatever different groupings you all would like. Examples would be a group picture of everybody, each individual family, individuals of the kids, grandkids with the grandparents, etc.

What happens if it's raining during our scheduled session time?
I will make every effort to make up your session as soon as possible if it's raining during your scheduled time. I also leave Thursday or Friday of every week free of portrait sessions for a weather make-up day.
